Vol. 362 No. 1

Written Answers. - Company Rescue Structures.

50.

asked the Minister for Industry, Trade, Commerce and Tourism given the need to develop flexible structures to revive ailing companies with trading and financial difficulties highlighted in the recent annual report of Fóir Teoranta, if he considers it would be appropriate to initiate reform in this area.

I am in broad agreement with the views on company rescue expressed in Fóir Teoranta's annual report for the year ended 31 December 1984, and have myself discussed the matter with the then chairman of the company. Officials in my Department are already carrying out an intensive examination of the conditions and structures necessary to facilitate company rescue with a view to the formulation of proposals for legal reform in this area. Appropriate provisions of company law in other countries are being studied in the course of this examination.
