Vol. 362 No. 1

Written Answers. - County Galway Sewerage Treatment Plants.

90.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will give the date on which plans and details of proposed remedial works to sewerage treatment plants at Beechgrove and Cloonarkin, Oranmore, County Galway, were submitted to his Department by Galway County Council; when he proposes to approve the commencement of those works; and if he is aware of the urgency of having this work carried out immediately in view of the serious health hazard which now exists as a result of the totally inadequate condition of the plants.

In view of the urgency of this proposal as outlined to my Department by Galway County Council in October 1984 I approved a loan for the work on 5 December 1984. Incomplete plans for this proposal were submitted to my Department in July 1985. Additional information sought was received on September 23 1985 and approval issued on 18 November 1985. It is now a matter for the council to proceed with the necessary works.
