Vol. 362 No. 2

Written Answers. - Garda Divisional Headquarters.

18.

asked the Minister for Justice when the Garda divisional headquarters will be set up at Fermoy, County Cork.

Limerick East): A review of the organisation of the Garda Síochána in Cork city and the surrounding areas has been completed following an examination of the matter which was carried out by a study team consisting of representatives of the Garda research and planning unit and of the operations research unit of the Department of the Public Service.

It has been decided that for the present at any rate the organisational needs of the force can be met by the establishment of an extra district and by the reorganisation of existing districts in the Cork-East division, which includes Cork city. This reorganisation took place earlier this year with the opening of the three new Garda stations in Cork — at Blackrock, Mayfield and Gurranabraher.

The organisational needs of the Garda Síochána in the Cork area, as indeed in all areas, are kept under constant review and, should the need arise at any future time, the establishment of an extra division will again be considered.
