Vol. 362 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Protection of Employees Act, 1981.

19.

asked the Minister for Labour if it is his intention to improve by amendment the Maternity (Protection of Employees) Act, 1981, and, if so, the section he proposes to amend.

A review of the Maternity (Protection of Employees) Act, 1981, is at present under way, in consultation with the various interested parties. When this work is completed, I will consider whatever amendments are necessary to improve the Act. One of the main issues which has arisen is the degree to which failure by employees to adhere strictly to the notification procedures can lead to their disqualification from entitlements.
