Vol. 362 No. 9

Written Answers. - Louth Garda Divisional Headquarters.

96.

asked the Minister for Finance the present position regarding the provision of a new Garda divisional headquarters at Drogheda, County Louth; if the negotiations regarding the site have been completed; when the project will commence; the approximate completion date; the projected cost of the development; if he agrees that a new barracks is urgently required; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The purchase of a site for a new Garda divisional headquarters at West Gate, Drogheda has been negotiated with Drogheda Corporation. The legal formalities cannot be completed until difficulties encountered in defining site boundaries have been resolved. Some preliminary planning has been undertaken but it is not possible at this stage to state the estimated cost or commencement and completion dates for the project. I am satisfied that the construction of a new building as now proposed will be a more satisfactory solution to Garda accommodation problems in Drogheda than the adaptation of the existing buildings.
