Vol. 362 No. 11

Written Answers. - Use of Computer Firms.

28.

asked the Minister for the Public Service if he will report to the House on the computer firms presently involved in programmes of schemes in the public service with specific reference to cost, effectiveness and efficiency.

At present the following firms are involved in the development of computer based systems in the Civil Service costing approximately £800,000 in all.

Baltimore Technology Ltd., Cathal Lennon Associates, Coopers & Lybrand Ltd., Craig Gardener & Co., Digital Ireland Ltd., Fintra Associates Ltd., James Martin Associates, Nixdorf Computer Ltd., Prism Computing Ltd., Progressive Systems Ltd., Punch & Programming Services Ltd., Stokes Kennedy Crowley & Co., Systems Dynamics Ltd., Telematics Ireland Ltd., Wang Ireland Ltd.

Computer firms are selected in the normal way by competitive tendering and I am satisfied that this process ensures that the best value for money is achieved.
