Vol. 362 No. 11

Written Answers. - Government Inquiry Offices.

29.

asked the Minister for the Public Service the number of offices in use for the purpose of informing citizens of the services which are available to them by the public service.

At the moment there is no such office. Some individual Departments, however, have offices which give information on the specific services offered by them to the public. It is precisely because of the poor information services available to the public that the White Paper on the Public Service, Serving the Country Better, provides for the establishment of Government inquiry offices, initially in Dublin, and later on in local centres. It also provides for the examination, as a matter of urgency, of the possibility of involving local authorities in the provision of information about central and local government services.
