Vol. 362 No. 14

Written Answers. - County Monaghan Relief Roads.

26.

asked the Minister for the Environment if in view of the increasing volume of heavy traffic on the N2 Dublin-Aughnealy primary route, he will give priority to carrying out work on the Carrickmacross relief road and the Monaghan relief road.

The new road plan, which I published last January, included the Carrickmacross relief road and the Monaghan relief road in a list of projects to be started after 1987. The priority to be accorded to projects listed for construction after 1987 will be reviewed by the end of 1986 taking account of cost benefit and other relevant studies. I understand that Monaghan County Council have already commenced design work on both schemes. In the case of the Carrickmacross relief road, I provided a grant commitment of £30,000 this year to meet preliminary costs.
