asked the Minister for the Environment (a) the number of engineers employed by Galway County Council in (i) 1984 and (ii) 1985; and (b) the number of clerical staff employed in (i) 1984 and (ii) 1985.

The information sought in respect of the year ended 31 December 1984 the latest date for which such information is available, is set out hereunder. The information has been compiled from returns furnished to my Department by Galway County Council.

The numbers shown include staff employed both in a permanent and temporary capacity, and the term clerical staff is taken to relate to clerical-administrative staff (Grade I to VII): (i) number employed in engineering posts at 31/12/84 — 49; (ii) number of clerical staff employed at 31/12/84 — 140.
