Vol. 362 No. 14

Written Answers. - Road Direction Signposting.

34.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will consider the provision of direction signposting showing Donegal, Leitrim and Sligo on main routes out of Dublin city.

The provision of directional traffic signs is a function of road authorities. Advance direction signs on national roads leading out of Dublin city generally carry the ultimate destination points originally determined by my Department for these routes. In the case of national roads N2, N3 and N4, the ultimate destinations are Derry, Cavan and Sligo, respectively. In general, it would not be desirable from the point of view of sign size, layout and legibility, nor would it be common practice, to include other destinations on these signs. However, in the provision of new or replacement signs on N2 and N3, consideration will be given to whatever measures can reasonably be taken to indicate that these routes lead to the Donegal area.
