Vol. 362 No. 14

Written Answers. - Departmental Staff.

46.

(Limerick West) asked the Minister for Finance the number of staff employed in his Department, the number of these staff who are members of trade unions which are affiliated to the ICTU; and will he give an assurance that confidential information from his Department is not being channelled by these staff in his Department to the ICTU.

(i) the number of staff serving in my Department on 17 December 1985 was 446. (ii) It appears that a majority of the staff are members of staff unions but I have not got precise information. (iii) In relation to the third part of the Deputy's question, all staff in my Department have statutory obligations under section 4 of the Official Secrets Act, 1963, of which they are made aware. I have no reason to believe that any confidential information is being channelled by staff in my Department to the ICTU. If the Deputy is aware of any such case I will have the matter investigated if he lets me have relevant details.
