Vol. 363 No. 1

Written Answers. - Harbours Development

134.

asked the Minister for Communications the total allocation for harbours in 1986 and the estimated cost in 1986 of: (a) developments at Cork deep water berth at Ringaskiddy; (b) completion of five year development programme, Dublin; and (c) provision of passenger handling facilities at Rosslare, County Wexford.

The total capital allocation for harbours in 1986 is £10.386 million which includes a provision of £6.7 million in Exchequer grants and £1.5 million from the Local Loans Fund. The balance of the 1986 expenditure will be financed from the internal resources of harbour authorities and by commercial borrowing. The £6.7 million includes, inter alia, a capital grant of £3 million in 1986 for Dublin Port and Docks Board, which is part of the overall rescue package for Dublin port agreed by the Government last year.

The estimated cost of completing the construction of the deep water berth of Ringaskiddy in 1986 is £2.77 million. Capital works at Dublin in 1986 will cost an estimated £350,000 and estimated expenditure of £340,000 will be incurred in completing the Customs vehicle building at Rosslare. Additional moneys are being sought for the construction of a passenger terminal building at Rosslare but I am not yet in a position to say how much money will be provided for this work in 1986.
