Vol. 363 No. 4

Written Answers. - Farmers' Compensation.

22.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will make a statement regarding his misleading reply to Parliamentary Question No. 72 of Wednesday, 11 December 1985, in connection with compensation for farmers in the Shannon Basin in County Roscommon who received £456,800 instead of £604,000 as stated in the Dáil reply.

Subsequent to the Deputy's question of 11 December it was found that the expenditure figure of £604,000 given in reply included some payments that should have been debited to the fertiliser subsidy scheme and not the Shannon Valley flood scheme. The Deputy was informed of this on 23 December and given the correct figure at that stage of £456,800. Incidentally, both figures in the reply and the Deputy's question of 11 December related to the expenditure on the Shannon Valley flood scheme as a whole and not just to expenditure in County Roscommon as the Deputy himself now states incorrectly in his present question.
