Vol. 363 No. 4

Written Answers. - County Galway Sewerage Scheme.

83.

asked the Minister for Fisheries and Forestry if he has been consulted regarding the proposed new sewerage schemes with outfalls into Galway Bay at Oranmore and Mutton Island, County Galway and enlargement of the Knocknacarra scheme; and if he has approved of the proposals in each case.

I have been consulted regarding the two proposed sewerage schemes in the Galway Bay area at Oranmore and at Mutton Island. There was concern within my Department at the potentially deleterious impact these two schemes in their original form could have had on the fishery interest in Galway Bay.

I now welcome the proposal by Galway Corporation to provide secondary treatment in relation to the Mutton Island sewerage scheme and the intention of Galway County Council to make provision in their current building plans at Oranmore for the rapid installation of secondary treatment there, should the need for this arise in time.

I have not yet been consulted regarding plans for an enlargement of the Knocknacarra sewerage scheme.
