asked the Minister for Health the number of children in care in residential homes on 30 June 1983, 1984, and 1985; and if he will state for each year (a) the number of committed children in care; (b) the number of children on remand; (c) number of children committed under section 55 of the Health Act, 1953; and (d) the number of children admitted voluntarily.

The information sought by the Deputy in relation to residential homes under the aegis of my Department is as set out in the following tabular statement:

There are no facilities for remand in these homes, which include 23 certified industrial schools and a further 19 homes approved under the Health Act, 1953, for the reception of children into care.
