Vol. 363 No. 4

Written Answers. - Domiciliary Care Allowance.

104.

asked the Minister for Health the reason a domiciliary care allowance has been refused to a person (details supplied) in County Dublin, on behalf of her daughter in view of the fact that similar allowances are being paid for two of her other children with similar conditions and needing the same kind of care and if he will ensure that this case is given further consideration.

An application for a domiciliary care allowance from the person in question was rejected by the Eastern Health Board on medical grounds on 15 November 1984 and an appeal against the decision was rejected on 1 October 1985. The allowance is payable only in respect of handicapped children who require a degree of care and attention which is substantially in excess of that normally required by a child of the same age. The applicant's child is not considered to meet these criteria. Each application is examined individually and the fact that the applicant is already receiving a domiciliary care allowance in respect of two other children has no bearing on her eligibility in respect of her third child.
