Vol. 363 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - VEC Audited Accounts.

3.

asked the Minister for Education if she is aware of the public concern over the continuing delay in the publication of audited accounts for the Dún Laoghaire pre-June 1985 Vocational Education Committee; the reason for the delay; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

I am aware that it is highly desirable that the audited accounts be completed and published as soon as possible. I understand that the audit for the financial years 1980 to 1983, inclusive, had been virtually completed when certain legal issues arose for consideration which involved an adjournment of the audit. I am informed that the auditor is now in a position to resume his task on Monday, 3 February 1986, and that he expects to be able to bring the audit to completion within a short time. I shall communicate further with the Deputy after the auditor's report has been received and considered in my Department.

Is it regretted in the Department that the circular which issued to CEOs was circulated when subsequent evidence proved the lack of necessity for such a circular?

That is a separate question.

This question relates to a specific school.
