Vol. 363 No. 9

Written Answers. - British Court Trial.

14.

asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs the action, if any, his Department is taking to properly monitor the court proceedings involving Dr. Máire O'Shea and if he will make a statement on the matter.

As Deputies will be aware, Dr. O'Shea was acquitted of the charges against her in jury verdicts at Manchester Crown Court on 4 and 5 February last.

The trial of Dr. O'Shea and four other defendants began on 16 January. The embassy in London was represented at the trial in an observer capacity. By this means and by close contact with the relatives and legal representatives of the defendants, and with the British authorities as necessary, the embassy was in a position properly to monitor the court proceedings.
