Vol. 363 No. 9

Written Answers. - Feed Voucher Scheme.

63.

asked the Minister for Agriculture when compensation will be paid to a person (details supplied) in County Kerry arising from the loss of 2,000 bales of hay in flood water last August and further grants arising from other losses incurred by him as a result of the bad harvest; and if he will make a statement on this case which has been investigated by the ACOT office in Kerry.

The person concerned applied for aid under the feed voucher scheme and a feed voucher issued to him last month. Assistance is also available under my Department's working capital scheme for tillage farmers who suffered substantial losses of tillage crops. If he has suffered any such losses he should make inquiries at the local branch of the appropriate lending institutions.

64.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will make a statement regarding value of grain vouchers and the period during which vouchers remain valid.

The value of the grain element of feed vouchers is determined by the market having regard to the prevailing market price for grain and the price at which cheap intervention grain can be purchased with vouchers. In general terms, the value of the discount on one tonne of intervention grain is the difference between 75 per cent of the intervention price and the market price of grain, adjusted by the costs incurred by merchants in buying grain from intervention.

Vouchers must be used by farmers by 15 April 1986 and presented by feed merchants to my Department by 30 April 1986.
