Vol. 363 No. 12

Written Answers. - County Tipperary School.

98.

asked the Minister for Education her plans for the extension and development of Mullinahone national school, County Tipperary; if she will sanction the appointment of a fifth assistant as and from 1 April 1986; if she will provide grants towards the furnishing of temporary accommodation which is available adjacent to the school and also towards the rental of these premises in the interim; and if she will make a statement on her plans for the future of this school.

99.

asked the Minister for Education if she is aware of the urgent need to provide a much needed extension to Mullinahone national school, Thurles, County Tipperary; for the relief of overcrowding; and pending the completion of the work involved, if she will (a) give sanction for a fifth assistant teacher from 1 April 1986; (b) provide a grant to furnish temporary accommodation available adjacent to the school at a reasonable rent; (c) provide a grant to meet the rent until permanent accommodation is provided; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 98 and 99 together. My Department has agreed in principle to grant aid the remodelling and extension to the existing accommodation at Mullinahone national school, County Tipperary, so as to provide five classrooms, a general purposes room and ancillary accommodation. My Department's professional staff have been asked to prepare a sketch scheme on that basis. The school will qualify for the appointment of an extra teacher on 1 April 1986 provided that an average enrolement of 175 pupils is secured for the quarter ending 31 March 1986. An application for a grant towards the cost of renting and furnishing temporary accommodation was recently received in my Department and is at present under consideration.
