asked the Minister for Fisheries, Forestry and Tourism the plans his Department have for afforestation in the area of Newcastle, Ballymahon, County Longford.

In the past five years my Department has reafforested 66 hectares of Newcastle property of Ballymahon forest. At present the land reserve for afforestation in the Newcastle area is 32 hectares of which two hectares will be planted in the current planting season. The suitable areas of the remaining 30 hectares will be cultivated this year and planted in 1987.

The area planned for reafforestation is 149 hectares of which 16 hectares are being planted in the current season. It is expected that the remaining 133 hectares will be planted at a rate of 25 to 30 hectares per annum.
