Vol. 363 No. 15

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Dún Laoghaire Harbour Expenditure.

13.

asked the Minister for Finance the capital expenditure by the Exchequer on Dún Laoghaire harbour for each year since 1983.

15.

asked the Minister for Finance the total cost to the Exchequer, including staff remuneration, in respect of Dún Laoghaire harbour for the years 1983 to 1985 inclusive.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 13 and 15 together. The amounts expended from the Vote for Public Works and Buildings in respect of the upkeep of the harbour, inclusive of staff remuneration, in the years in question were approximately: 1983, £1,225,000; 1984, £1,420,000, 1985, £1,375,000.

In addition to those amounts, capital expenditure was as follows: 1983, £45,575; 1984, £6,929; 1985, £55,395.

Could the Minister indicate what the actual projects were? For example, what was the £55,000 spent on?

The question was specifically what the capital expenditure by the Exchequer on Dún laoghaire harbour was in each of the years but if the Deputy wants me to expand on it I shall.

It is a different question.

It must be on one or two projects.

The expenditure in 1983 and 1984 was in respect of the conversion of the accommodation walk to a roadway linking Coal Quay Bridge to the West Pier. This was necessitated by the closure of the level crossing adjacent to the West Pier when the Howth-Bray railway line was electrified by CIE. CIE contributed to the cost of the work. Expenditure in 1985 was in respect of the installation of a passenger ramp to replace stairs at the mailboat pier terminal building. That gives some idea.
