Vol. 363 No. 15

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Privatisation of State Companies.

22.

asked the Minister for Finance if he intends to introduce proposals for the privatisation of State companies.

I have no plans at present to introduce proposals for the privatisation of State companies.

Is the Minister contemplating introducing some plans and, if so, will he indicate the scope in regard to them in the future?

This question certainly falls into the category of, "When did you stopped beating your wife?". It is in line with the courtroom tactics we have seen here in the last hour or so from Deputy O'Kennedy. The position is as I outlined in my reply and I should like to repeat it in order to enlighten Deputy O'Kennedy. I have no plans at present to introduce proposals for the privatisation of State companies.

The Minister is refusing to state whether he is considering plans for the future. He should tell the Tánaiste the same thing.
