asked the Minister for Social Welfare the average cost to the Exchequer for every 1,000 persons who become unemployed of (i) unemployment payments per annum; and (ii) the estimated additional average loss per annum to the Exchequer in income tax and PRSI payments.
Written Answers. - Cost of Unemployment Payments.
172.
Allowing for the increases in rates of payments announced in the budget the average cost of unemployment payments in 1986 per 1,000 persons on the live register is estimated at £2.7 million. So many imponderables are involved in estimating the loss to the Exchequer in tax and PRSI payments for every 1,000 persons who become unemployed that calculations have not been made and figures are therefore not available.
