Vol. 364 No. 1

Written Answers. - Arrest of Hare Krishna Monks.

204.

asked the Minister for Justice the circumstances surrounding the removal of Hare Krishna monks from Grafton Street on 12 October 1985; and the offences that these people have been charged with.

It is not a matter for the Minister for Justice to indicate what charges have been brought against particular persons or to state the circumstances in which arrests leading to such charges have been made. As the Deputy is aware, criminal proceedings (except in certain circumstances that are not relevant in the present context) are brought in open court and it is open to any interested person, as well as to the news media, to attend and hear the evidence as presented.
