Vol. 364 No. 1

Written Answers. - Installation of Miniature Railway.

73.

asked the Minister for Tourism, Fisheries and Forestry if he is aware of the efforts of a person (details supplied) in County Wexford applying in the last 18 months to install a 7½ inch gauge railway with a steam train in the John F. Kennedy Arboretum, County Wexford; if he accepts such an amenity would be a great attraction and would blend in with the environment; and if he will immediately give sanction for this project which will not involve any cost to the State.

I am aware that permission has been sought of my Department to install and operate a miniature railway in the Arboretum at John F. Kennedy Park, New Ross, County Wexford. The proposal presents some difficulty because of the nature and lay-out of the arboretum and the purpose for which it was established. I have not yet completed my examination of the matter but I hope to do so at an early date when I will communicate with the Deputy and the applicant.
