Vol. 364 No. 4

Written Answers. - Galway High Court Sittings.

152.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will state in relation to the Galway County Borough section of the western circuit of the High Court: (a) the number of appeals which are lodged and awaiting hearing; (b) the length of time before an appeal is finally heard; and (c) if he has any proposals to have these delays minimised.

(a) I am informed that four appeals from the area that now comprises the County Borough of Galway are listed for hearing by the High Court on circuit which is sitting in Galway at present; (b) appeals are normally disposed of by the High Court at the sitting following lodgment of the appeals, except where one or other of the parties to an appeal requests an adjournment. (Under existing legislation the High Court sits twice a year in every county and county borough to hear appeals from the Circuit Court. The court normally sits in Galway in March and October of each year); (c) does not arise.
