Vol. 364 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Ennis Vocational School.

7.

asked the Minister for Education if he is aware of the unsatisfactory location of Ennis vocational school; the need to provide further accommodation for vocational education in the area and the desirability of relocating this new school on an alternative site; and if he is prepared to meet a deputation of public representatives from Clare VEC and other interested parties to fully discuss the matter.

I am aware of the vocational school situation in Ennis. I have asked my Department to complete their examination of the school's accommodation problems as a matter of urgency.

An application has been made to me on behalf of County Clare VEC to meet a deputation from the VEC to discuss this matter and I have agreed to do so.

May I make the point of the desirability of seeking a new location for the vocational school in Ennis because the existing location is totally unsatisfactory, not leaving room for further expansion? The Minister has apparently a proposal for some development on the present site, but the general view of the parents and teachers is that that site is totally unsatisfactory for the kind of development envisaged. They are seeking permission from the Department and the Minister to acquire a new site and relocate the school. Would the Minister tell us if he will deal with this matter as soon as possible?

I note what the Deputy has said and I will take into account his views and those expressed by the deputation.
