Vol. 364 No. 5

Written Answers. - Employment Schemes.

109.

Mr. Cowen

asked the Minister for Labour the amount of money allocated and spent in respect of all temporary work schemes administered by his Department; the amount spent on each scheme in each county and also of the amount spent on the employer incentive scheme in each county; and the total sum spent on schemes geared towards giving long term employment such as the employer incentive scheme.

The amount of money allocated in respect of the temporary work schemes viz. teamwork and the social employment scheme since their inception, including 1986, was £105,155,400. Expenditure on these schemes from their inception to the end of 1985 was £32,388,656.

I do not at present have a breakdown of expenditure by county for the schemes, with the exception of Teamwork. I have given information on Teamwork for 1985 in a separate written question by the Deputy for today.

Long term permanent employment is the objective of the employment incentive scheme and the enterprise allowance scheme. The total amount spent on each of these schemes from their inception to the end of 1985 was £29,121,093 on the employment incentive scheme and £17,986,000 on the enterprise allowance scheme. The Youth Employment Agency also operates job creation and enterprise programmes. The total amount spent on their programmes up to the end of 1985 was £3,938,000.
