Vol. 364 No. 7

Written Answers. - National College of Art and Design.

175.

asked the Minister for Education with reference to Parliamentary Question No. 84 of 28 November 1985 if the review referred to has taken place; if so, the outcome; if the course has been validated; and if the course will be funded by his Department.

As previously indicated, in reply to Parliamentary Question No. 84 of 28 November 1985, the matter to which the Deputy refers is one essentially for the board of the National College of Art and Design.

I am informed by the board that a fundamental review has been carried out and completed in regard to the situation in the faculty of education in the college. Arising from the review a submission has been made to the National Council for Educational Awards in regard to the recognition of the course for degree purposes. A decision is awaited from that council.

The question of funding is one to be determined by the Higher Education Authority in the context of the block grant from my Department in respect of the designated institutions of the Higher Education Authority.
