Vol. 364 No. 10

Written Answers. - Leixlip (Kildare) IMP Plant.

164.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he is aware of the sale of the Cork Marts/IMP meat processing plant at Leixlip, County Kildare; if he has any knowledge of the identity of the new owner; if he has received any indication as to the future use of the plant; if he is prepared to use his influence to ensure the continuation of the Leixlip plant for the killing and processing of beef; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The sale of the IMP plant at Leixlip is a private commercial transaction and I have no details in regard to it. The question of the future use of the plant is primarily a matter for its owners. My role is rather a creation of the most suitable environment possible for the production and processing of cattle and meat. Every effort has been made and will continue to be made to achieve such an environment.
