Vol. 365 No. 1

Written Answers. - Tax Rebate.

147.

asked the Minister for Finance when a tax rebate will be paid to a person (details supplies) in County Wexford.

I have been advised by the Revenue Commissioners that the taxpayer ceased employment on 20 December 1985 and submitted a claim for repayment of tax to the inspector of taxes on 9 January 1986. However, the inspector was not able to process the claim because he had not received the employer's copy of the cessation certificate confirming the amounts of pay and tax deducted during the taxpayer's period of employment. On 13 January 1986 the inspector wrote to the taxpayer's former employer for the necessary details but there was no response.

The inspector has now telephoned the employer who informed him that the taxpayer had resumed his employment during February last. In the circumstances, a certificate of tax free allowances for the year 1985-86, incorporating all the allowances to which the taxpayer is entitled was issued to the employer on 1 April 1986. The refund due was made to the taxpayer by the employer on 4 April 1986.
