Vol. 365 No. 1

Written Answers. - Aquaculture Property.

151.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will ensure that the rateable position of acquaculture property does not fall into the category of commercially developed land but will be considered in the same manner as agricultural evaluation in view of the huge potential of this sector.

I am informed by the Commissioner of Valuation that properties associated with aquaculture, unlike agricultural land, are rateable hereditaments. I cannot accept that aquaculture is either analogous to, or a form of, agriculture and accordingly I do not propose to change the legislation to allow the rating exemptions which apply to agriculture to be applied also to aquaculture.
