Vol. 365 No. 1

Written Answers. - Psychiatric Patients Statistics.

168.

asked the Minister for Health the number of patients both male and female from County Louth and County Meath attending the new psychiatric day centre at Drogheda, if this new centre has reduced the number of patients attending psychiatric hospitals in the region and the hospitals concerned; and the difference in cost and the actual saving to the NEHB and his Department.

The information requested by the Deputy is as follows:

Number of attenders at Drogheda Day Centre

Male

Female

County Louth

26

12

County Meath

2

2

As this is a new service for County Meath it is expected that the numbers of attenders from County Meath will increase in the next 12 months.

It is too early yet to assess the effect of the new day centre on admissions to psychiatric hospitals in the region or on the cost of providing the service. The hospitals concerned are St. Bridget's Hospital, Ardee and St. Loman's Hospital, Mullingar.
