Vol. 365 No. 1

Written Answers. - South Tipperary Hospital Services.

176.

asked the Minister for Health if, in order to allay public anxiety in the matter, he will give an assurance that the hospital services in South Tipperary shall not be reduced or curtailed in any way; that the existing facilities at hospitals in Clonmel, Cashel, Tipperary, Clogheen and Carrick-on-Suir shall be maintained and safeguarded; if he will make a statement on the matter and ensure that the necessary money is provided for the proposal.

I have no plans to reduce the hospital services in South Tipperary. It must be understood that the provision of these services is a matter, in the first instance, for the South Eastern Health Board. That health board, in common with all other health agencies, must provide its services within the limits of the available revenue allocation. The board is at present considering the impact of the 1986 allocation on the health services, including hospital services, which it administers.
