Vol. 365 No. 1

Written Answers. - County Galway School.

292.

asked the Minister for Education when an application was made by the appropriate authorities for a new school (details supplied) in County Galway; the discussions which have taken place between the local community representatives and his Department since then and the dates on which these discussions took place; whether he is satisfied that the fullest co-operation has been received from all concerned; and the present position regarding the provision of the new school.

An application for the provision of a new building for the national school referred to was received in my Department on 27 January 1984. With regard to subsequent discussions between local community representatives and my Department, I understand the Deputy to refer to a deputation of interested local people which was received by a senior officer of my Department on 14 May 1985 when the question of a site and of site development costs for the project were discussed. My Department is satisfied with the level of co-operation received from the school authorities in respect of the project and is at present considering a recent report from its professional advisers regarding the cost of works which will arise out of the necessity to render the site proposed for the new school suitable and will shortly be in touch with the school authorities in this regard.
