Vol. 365 No. 1

Written Answers. - Grant Payment.

297.

asked the Minister for Education the reason the sum of £5,926.41 which is owed to a school (details supplied) in Dublin 13 has not been paid.

Arrangements are in hands to pay to the school referred to at an early date a grant on invoices received by my Department for works inspected by my Department's professional advisers. A grant in respect of the remaining vouchers received will be paid when the works have been inspected and found to be satisfactory. The further inspection is being arranged for at an early date.

The works of their nature had to be undertaken piecemeal by the school authorities. Some of the invoices were submitted during the period when the Office of Public Works was the body responsible for making grant payments and some in a subsequent period when my Department had taken over full responsibility for this work. It is found that the figure quoted by the Deputy is substantially in excess of that supported by vouchers submitted to my Department. My Department will be communicating with the school authorities with a view to clarifying the position, and I propose to write to the Deputy when this has been done as to the timescale involved in making the various payments.
