Vol. 365 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - National Day of Commemoration.

3.

asked the Taoiseach the consultations, if any, he has had with the Army regarding National Day of Commemoration 1986, to be held in July; the form the parade will take; and the organisations which will be invited to attend and participate.

I presume that the Deputy is referring to the proposed national day of commemoration.

I refer the Deputy to the reply which I gave to a similar question on 13 November 1985. I am arranging to have the recommendations of the inter-departmental committee discussed with the parties in this house at an early date.

Could I ask the Taoiseach if consideration will be given to the report of the all-party committee in the sense that he will ensure that there is a substantial military presence in relation to the parade?

The form of commemoration will be discussed between the parties. The existing proposals involve the participation of the Army but it is a matter for discussion between the leaders of the parties.

Will the Taoiseach notify the Members of the House when arrangements have been concluded for the parade?

Yes, of course. I have just written to the leaders of the various parties and discussions will be taking place shortly in regard to this matter.
