Vol. 365 No. 1

Written Answers. - Private Afforestation.

111.

asked the Minister for Tourism, Fisheries and Forestry if there is sufficient nursery stock available for an increase in private afforestation.

Plants for private afforestation are normally provided by the private nursery trade but for the current planting season the private nurseries were unable to meet the increased demand for such plants. In an effort to relieve the supply situation my Department decided to make available one million plants towards the shortfall in the private nurseries supply. These plants were sold by the Department to those who had been approved for planting grants but who were unable to secure supplies from the private sector.
