Vol. 365 No. 1

Written Answers. - Monitoring of Salmon Catches.

118.

asked the Minister for Tourism, Fisheries and Forestry if salmon catches by the Faroese are being monitored to ensure that overfishing is not taking place in that area.

Salmon catches in the Faroes Islands are being monitored by the International Council for Exploration of the Sea (ICES) since 1979. Quotas for salmon catches in the Faroes Islands have been fixed since 1982. The quota for 1985-86 was 550 tonnes.
