Vol. 365 No. 2

Order of Business.

It is proposed to take Nos. 18, 19 and 20.

By agreement, the proceedings on the remaining stages of No. 18 shall be brought to a conclusion not later than 6.30 p.m. today by one Question which shall be put from the Chair and which shall in relation to amendments include only amendments set down by the Minister for Industry and Commerce. Also by agreement, No. 20 shall be taken at 6.30 p.m. today. Private Members' Business shall be No. 43.

Are the arrangements regarding the concluding stages of No. 18 agreed? Agreed.

Ba mhaith liom a iarraidh ar Aire na Gaeltachta an mbeadh sé sásta dul i gcomhairle leis an Aire Oideachais faoi Choláiste Thuar Mhic Éide, atá fógraithe a bheith druidthe go luath, le feiceáil an feidir an coláiste sin a choinneáil ar siúl ó tharla an tábhacht atá leis ó thaobh na Gaeilge de?

Níl sé sin in ordar Riar na hOibre.

I wish to raise on the Adjournment the staffing shortages at Malin head radio station due to Government cutbacks. This is a very serious problem in relation to shipping in the North Atlantic. Could special consideration be given to this matter?

I will communicate with the Deputy.

The closure of Tourmakeady all-Irish school has caused great anxiety in the community of west Mayo. Would the Minister for Education indicate whether he is prepared to negotiate with the sisters regarding the continuation of this college in the Gaeltacht?

That does not arise on the Order of Business.

Perhaps the Minister for Education would indicate that he is aware of the position and that he is prepared to try to do something about it?

Tabhair aire dúinn, a Leas-Cheann Comhairle.

(Cur isteach.)

Ní thuigeann sé Gaeilge.

Could the Taoiseach indicate when it is intended to introduce legislation for the reorganisation of local administration in the Dublin region and when he expects it to be passed?

It will be introduced before the summer recess and, with the co-operation of the Opposition, it could be passed very rapidly.

It is such important legislation that it will need careful scrutiny but the Government will probably guillotine it as usual.

I do not disagree——

Is that why the Taoiseach will not allow us to apply for money to Brussels?

I wish to raise on the Adjournment the very serious matter of the number of corporation houses, especially in Tallaght, which are vacant and being vandalised because of lack of security. The Minister of State, Deputy O'Brien, may smile but it is a very serious problem. Houses are being set on fire and people in the area are fearful——

I will communicate with the Deputy.

De bharr an fheagra mí-shásúil a fuair mé ó Aire na Gaeltachta inné, rinne mé iarracht agus d'iarr mé cead ort Ceist Uimh. 5 a ardú ar an Athló. Ba mhaith liom an t-iarratas céanna a dhéanamh maidir inniu.

I will communicate with the Deputy.

Ba mhaith liom a iarraidh ar Aire na Gaeltachta cathain a thógfar Uimhir 16 ar an bPáipéar Orduithe inniu, is é sin tairiscint chun orduithe tagartha an Chomhchoiste don Ghaeilge a leasú.

Chomh luath agus is féidir.

The Minister obviously has no interest in or knowledge of the closure of Tourmakeady all-Irish school in the west Mayo Gaeltacht and I should like the matter to be raised on the Adjournment because of its importance——

I will communicate with the Deputy.

Would the Taoiseach indicate when it is proposed to introduce the companies law legislation on insolvency? He indicated early last term that he might introduce it last session and I should like to know if it is proposed to introduce it before the summer recess.

Before Dublin Gas go broke.
