Vol. 365 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Media Presentation of Budget.

7.

asked the Minister for Finance the estimated cost of the budget 1986 television, radio and press presentation; and the cost of the phone-in service in Dublin Castle and all other presentations since budget day.

The publicity programme aimed to fully acquaint taxpayers and members of the public generally of their entitlements under the 1986 budget is estimated to cost some £57,922. This covers ministerial broadcasts, the budget Hotline notices, telephone costs, printing of information leaflets and local press briefings.

In addition, the customary notices, spelling out details of the budget as they affect individual taxpayers and the business community, have been placed in the national and provincial newspapers by the Revenue Commissioners. These notices related to PAYE and VAT changes, and the tax amnesty.

The cost of these notices was £78,993.

Will the Minister arrange to instal in Leinster House the same facilities which the Tánaiste had, where one can answer questions on live television which were not addressed to one on telephone and where one can effectively talk to oneself — pose the questions and give the answers?
