Vol. 365 No. 5

Written Answers - Marketing of Fertilisers.

56.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if there are any proposals at EC level to have a standard system of indicating strengths of phosphate and potash in compound fertilisers.

The EC Directive on the marketing of fertilisers lays down that the nutrient content of phosphorus and potassium in compound fertilisers, as displayed on the packages, labels and sales documents, shall be expressed either solely in the oxide form (P2O5 and K2O) or solely in the elemental form (P and K) or in both forms simultaneously. It is a matter for each member state to decide which of the options shall apply for fertilisers marketed within its jurisdiction. There is no proposal to change this provision.
