Vol. 365 No. 11

Written Answers. - Yield from Petroleum Products.

53.

asked the Minister for Finance the gross yield from VAT and excise duty on petroleum and petroleum products in each of the years in 1982 to 1985, inclusive and the volume on which such excise and VAT was levied in each year.

The information requested so far as it is available is as follows:

Excise Duty and VAT Receipts £m

Volume (million hectolitres)

1982

432.8

49.10

1983

516.3

44.69

1984

541.3

42.48

1985 (provisional)

571.0

41.71

The receipts shown represent an estimate of VAT receipts from the principal petroleum products (i.e. petrol, road diesel, motor oil, central heating oil, kerosene and liquid petroleum gas), and actual net excise duty receipts from dutiable hydrocarbon oils and liquid petroleum gas, in the years in question.

The volume figures shown represent the net quantities of hydrocarbon oils and liquid petroleum gas on which excise duty was paid in the years in question.

Owing to an error in compilation, incorrect figures of net duty-paid quantities of these products in the years 1980 to 1985 were given in reply to a question by the Deputy on 22 January 1986 (columns 125-126 of the Official Report). The correct figures for 1980 and 1981 are 61.75 million hectolitres and 55.16 million hectolitres respectively.
