Vol. 365 No. 12

Written Answers. - Carrick-on-Suir (Tipperary) Tannery.

16.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if, having regard to the occupation of the vacant tannery premises at Carrick-on-Suir, County Tipperary, by the former employees, designed to highlight their utter frustration at the inordinate delay in reopening the tannery, he will avail of all steps open to him to bring about a commencement of work in consultation with the new owner and the receiver; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

22.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware of a sit-in at the tannery, Carrick-on-Suir, by the former employees; if he will investigate the reasons for such action and use his good offices to find a solution to the issues involved; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Limerick East): I propose to take Questions Nos. 16 and 22 together.

In relation to Questions Nos. 16 and 22, on the Carrick-on-Suir tannery, I would refer the Deputy to the reply to the Deputy's Question No. 45 on 6 November 1985 — Official Report, volume 361, No. 6, column 1394. In particular, I would draw the Deputy's attention to the last sentence in that reply which stated that the details and timing of the new owners' development plans are matters for the company itself.

Question No. 17 re-entered for oral reply.
