Vol. 365 No. 14

Written Answers. - Gweebarra Bay (Donegal) Aquaculture.

74.

asked the Minister for Tourism, Fisheries and Forestry if, in relation to the designation of a section of Gweebarra Bay, County Donegal for aquaculture, he will consult with local interests concerned, including the Gweebarra Fishermen's Association, which has lodged an objection to this proposal.

Under section 54 of the Fisheries Act, 1980, an area may be designated in which it shall be lawful to engage in aquaculture subject to licence. Prior to such a designation, a public inquiry may be necessary.

A public inquiry has been scheduled to be held in the community centre. Glenties on 27 May 1986 in respect of Gweebarra Bay. A notice to this effect will be published shortly. It will be open to any interested parties, including the Gweebarra Fishermen's Association, to attend the inquiry and to give any evidence they wish in relation to the proposed designation. My Department has been in contact with the relevant local and national authorities and with the applicants concerned, in connection with this matter.
