Vol. 366 No. 1

Written Answers. - Eligibility for Health Services.

46.

asked the Minister for Health if he will announce immediately the income limit for eligibility for category II health services (hospital services) to enable persons in need of essential additional health insurance to make their arrangements.

The income limit for eligibility for category II health services is reviewed annually and is increased, if appropriate, with effect from 1 June.

I have now completed the review for 1986 and subject to consultation with the interested bodies, I propose to increase the limit to £14,500 with effect as from 1 June 1986. The income will relate to the year ended 5 April 1986. Regulations giving effect to this proposal will be made shortly when consultations have been completed. Advertisements announcing the new limit will be placed in the newspapers when the regulations are made.
