Vol. 366 No. 2

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Bord Fáilte Promotional Activities.

17.

asked the Minister for Tourism, Fisheries and Forestry the steps he has taken to have Bord Fáilte undertake exercises in monitoring the efficiency of their promotional effort in quantitative terms; and if he will give results of any studies he has undertaken in this matter to date.

As the Deputy will be aware, the Government in their White Paper on Tourism Policy published last September requested Bord Fáilte to undertake a study of their promotional activities in quantitative terms. This study which will include comparative analyses of the performances of tourism promotional boards in other European countries is expected to be completed within the next two months. It is intended that the results of the study will be included in the board's annual report for 1985.

Is the Minister in a position to say what percentage of the total expenditure of Bord Fáilte is utilised on promotional activities?

That is a separate question and I do not have the details.

I know the Minister, Deputy Donnellan, suggested that remark to the Minister. I do not think it is too much to ask the Minister what is the amount of money being expended by Bord Fáilte in 1986 on promotional activities.

The total budget is £27 million. That goes towards amenity development grants and promotion. I have not got the exact figures at this stage but I will be glad to supply them to the Deputy.
