Vol. 366 No. 2

Written Answers. - County Cork Afforestation.

33.

asked the Minister for Tourism, Fisheries and Forestry the total acreage of trees planted for each of the years 1983 to 1986, inclusive in County Cork, stating (a) the acreage planted for the first time and (b) the acreage replanted; and the future plans he has for land purchase for tree planting.

As the statistical information requested is in the form of a tabular statement, I propose to circulate it in the Official Report. Following is the statement:

(Estimate)

In 1985 a total of 245 hectares of land for afforestation was acquired in County Cork. Indications are that acquisitions in 1986 will exceed that figure but at this stage it is too early to make a firm prediction. Future acquisition of land in County Cork as in the country generally will depend largely on the number of offers of suitable land made to my Department and on the funds allocated for that purpose.

Question No. 34 re-entered for oral reply.
