Vol. 366 No. 4

Written Answers. - Tax Free Allowance Certificates.

83.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will issue without delay a correct tax free allowance certificate to a person (details supplied) in County Roscommon.

I have been advised by the Revenue Commissioners that a certificate of tax free allowances for the current year, 1986-87, incorporating all the allowances and reliefs to which the taxpayer is entitled was issued to him on 7 April 1986.

The taxpayer is in receipt of a retirement pension and a social welfare old age contributory pension both of which are chargeable to tax. The social welfare pension is paid gross and it is standard practice in such cases to collect the tax attributable to it under PAYE from the other income by reducing the tax free allowances by the amount of the social welfare pension.

asked the Minister for Finance the reason a tax free allowance certificate was not issued to a person (details supplied) in County Carlow.

I have been advised by the Revenue Commissioners that according to their records the taxpayer ceased employment in September 1984. The inspector of taxes, Kilkenny, who previously dealt with the taxpayer's affairs, is unable to trace any notification of a current employment. The inspector will now communicate directly with the taxpayer in the matter.
